Vinicunca — Rainbow Mountain — sits deep in the Andes south of Cusco at over 5,000 meters. The streaked red, yellow and green bands running across the ridge come from mineral layers oxidizing over millions of years. Peruways runs guided day trips out from Cusco to the viewpoint.
Our trips include transport out of Cusco at dawn, breakfast on the way, a licensed guide, and the walk itself — around 90 minutes up to the ridge. Horses are available at the trailhead if you’d rather skip the first climb, and our guides carry oxygen for the altitude.
Along the way, the guides explain how the colors formed, what the altiplano plants are, and how the local Quechua communities use the land. On a clear morning, you can see across to Ausangate, the highest peak in the region.
Book your Vinicunca trip with Peruways and we’ll handle the long day at altitude. Reserve a date at Peruways and we’ll send the pickup time with your confirmation.
