Peruways runs guided climbs of Machu Picchu Mountain, the 3,082-meter (10,111-foot) peak that rises directly above the citadel. The trail climbs through cloud forest and long sections of Inca stonework, and the view at the top looks straight down over the ruins and across to the surrounding ridges. The climb is strenuous but not technical, and our guides pace it so a reasonably fit traveler can finish it. On the way up you pass orchids, bromeliads, and occasionally a spectacled bear in the trees. Book with Peruways for the permit, train, and bus bundled into one itinerary.
