"A full day on the train sounds long, but it flies by. The gourmet lunch, the live Andean music and the pisco sour demo made it feel more like a cruise than a train ride. Peruways answered all our pre-trip questions in English and Spanish."

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's included in the Titicaca train service?
A full-day scenic journey with a three-course gourmet lunch, afternoon tea, beverages, snacks, live Andean music and traditional dances, a Pisco Sour demonstration, access to the panoramic observation car with open-air balcony, and personalised service throughout the trip. The entrance to Machu Picchu is not included - this route operates exclusively between Cusco and Puno.
How long is the journey?
Approximately a full day, depending on the itinerary and operational conditions. The train travels across the Peruvian Altiplano and stops at La Raya (4,335 m above sea level) - one of the most impressive viewpoints on the route - before continuing on to Lake Titicaca.
Where does the Titicaca train depart from?
The Titicaca train departs from Cusco - Wanchaq station and arrives at Puno, on the shore of Lake Titicaca. The return train runs in the opposite direction on separate operating days. Exact departure times and operating days vary by season - check availability above ↑ for your travel date.
Does the train include entrance to Machu Picchu?
No. The Titicaca train operates exclusively between Cusco and Puno and does not include Machu Picchu entrance tickets or transport. If you want to combine both experiences, we can bundle your Titicaca train with a separate Machu Picchu train + entrance ticket in one booking - contact us or add them from our Machu Picchu section.
Can I change my travel date after booking?
Yes, subject to availability and operator policies. To make your ticket modifiable or refundable, add our Refund Protection at checkout - it entitles you to a partial refund if you need to cancel or reschedule, for any reason, with no questions asked.
Can I buy a ticket for someone else?
Yes. The ticket is issued in the passenger's name, and a valid ID or passport matching the name on the ticket is required at the station. You can book on behalf of family, friends or clients - just enter their details at checkout.
Is the altitude a concern on the Titicaca train?
The train crosses La Raya pass at 4,335 m - higher than Cusco (3,399 m). Most travellers who have acclimatised in Cusco for 1-2 days before the trip handle it well. Drink water, eat light, and consider coca tea on board. The train has oxygen available if needed.
What luggage can I bring on the train?
One carry-on per passenger (backpack, bag or briefcase) - max 8 kg / 17 lb, up to 118 cm / 46 in total (Height + Length + Width). Larger luggage can be left at your Cusco hotel and collected on your return, or forwarded to Puno via a separate transfer - ask us at booking.
