The 72 km from Cusco to Ollantaytambo is the stretch of the Sacred Valley most travellers see on the way to Machu Picchu. Peruways runs it as a day trip or as part of a multi-day Sacred Valley circuit, with stops at Chincheros, Urubamba and the Pisac Sunday market.
Ollantaytambo at 2,792 m is the only Inca town still laid out on its original grid, and the fortress above the plaza is where Manco Inca defeated a Spanish cavalry force in 1537 by flooding the terraces. Six massive pink porphyry blocks still stand at the half-finished Temple of the Sun on the ridge.
Our day trips include hotel pickup, a licensed Ministry of Culture guide, site tickets and lunch in Urubamba. If you’re going on to Machu Picchu, we can book the onward Ollantaytambo–Aguas Calientes train, Consettur bus and entrance ticket in the same checkout.
