The Sacred Valley — Valle Sagrado del Urubamba — runs 60 km between Pisac and Ollantaytambo. It was the Inca Empire’s agricultural heartland and still produces most of the maize eaten in Cusco. The air at valley altitude is thicker than up in the city, which is why most itineraries move travellers down here to acclimatise.
Peruways’ day-trip from Cusco covers Pisac (fortress and Sunday market), Urubamba (lunch stop), Ollantaytambo (fortress and Pinkuylluna granaries) and Chincheros (textile cooperative). Licensed Ministry of Culture guides in English or Spanish, hotel pickup, site tickets included.
Book the Sacred Valley day at Peruways, or pair it with your Machu Picchu trip as a first day before the train from Ollantaytambo down to Aguas Calientes.
