Seven Color Mountain — Vinicunca, or Rainbow Mountain — is one of Peru’s most-photographed landscapes. The ridge sits deep in the Andes south of Cusco, and the striped bands of red, yellow, green, and blue running across it come from mineral layers oxidizing at different rates over millions of years. Peruways runs guided day trips out from Cusco.
The hike to the viewpoint is relatively short — around 90 minutes each way — but the altitude is the catch: the ridge sits above 5,000 meters, higher than most European and North American travelers have been. Peruways’ guides pace the walk, carry oxygen, and know the signs of altitude trouble.
Our day trips cover transport out of Cusco at dawn, a hot breakfast on the way, the guided hike itself, and the drive back. Horses are available at the trailhead for travelers who want to shortcut the first part of the climb.
Book your Vinicunca trip with Peruways and we’ll handle the logistics around a long day at high altitude.
