Cusco, the old Inca capital, carries its history in more than ruins. The city flag is one of its clearest symbols, and most visitors see it everywhere without quite registering what it means.
The design puts seven horizontal rainbow bands together, often misread elsewhere as a Pride flag but used in Cusco since the 1970s to represent the city and, by extension, Inca heritage. The rainbow motif links back to the Inca Empire itself.
If you’re in Cusco for the museums, the markets, or as a Machu Picchu base, Peruways runs the travel side so you have time for the city rather than the logistics.
