The Inca Rail train to Machu Picchu is one of two main services on the route — the other being PeruRail. Both run from Cusco (Poroy) and Ollantaytambo down the Vilcanota gorge to Aguas Calientes, through the Sacred Valley.
Inca Rail’s carriages have panoramic windows, and the service classes run from the standard Voyager through the 360° (full glass roof) to the First Class Private, with meals and bar service on the higher tiers. The route is the same across all of them.
The ride itself is part of the trip — Sacred Valley terraces, Veronica peak (5,750m), the gorge narrowing toward Aguas Calientes. From the station, the Consettur shuttle takes you up to the citadel entrance in about 25 minutes.
Peruways books Inca Rail tickets together with the Consettur shuttle, citadel entry, and a guide if you want one, so the whole day is in one reservation.
