The Sacred Valley sits between Cusco and Machu Picchu, and a day tour of it is one of the better value trips in the region. Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray, Maras, Chinchero — six Inca sites, a working weavers’ village, a salt pan still worked by hand, and the valley floor’s own picantería food scene.

Starting in Cusco (3,400 m) and dropping into the valley at about 2,800 m (9,186 feet) also helps with acclimatization. Many travelers now sleep in the valley for the first few nights rather than in Cusco — easier on the lungs, closer to the Machu Picchu trains.

Standard day tours stop at Pisac ruins and market, lunch in Urubamba, and the Ollantaytambo temple complex. Longer tours add Moray’s experimental agricultural terraces and the Maras salt pans — a short detour but worth it.

Peruways runs the loop with Spanish-English guides, transport, and lunch included. Customization — swapping in Chinchero’s weavers’ cooperative, or horse-riding above the valley — is available.
