Ollantaytambo Station is the main departure point for Machu Picchu-bound trains, 90 minutes by road from Cusco. The station sits in the Inca-era town of Ollantaytambo at the lower end of the Sacred Valley.
From here it’s a 1h 30m train ride to Aguas Calientes along the Urubamba river. The route passes the start of the classic Inca Trail at Km 82, cuts through cloud forest, and arrives at the town below the Machu Picchu entrance. Panoramic cars (PeruRail Vistadome, Inca Rail 360°) take advantage of the scenery.
Services range from budget (Expedition, Voyager) to luxury (Belmond Hiram Bingham). Ollantaytambo is where PeruRail runs the bulk of its Machu Picchu service — faster, cheaper, and better scheduling than starting at Poroy.
Book trains and transfers from Peruways. We also arrange the Cusco-to-Ollantaytambo transfer if you don’t want to drive it yourself.
