The Inca Bridge sits at the western edge of Machu Picchu, a slim passage carved into a cliff face. It was part of a back route that linked parts of the citadel and gave the Inca a defensible escape line in case of attack.

Peruways’ guides take you across the trail to the bridge with the history and the engineering explained as you go. The structure itself is small, but how the Inca built it into the cliff tells you a lot about their relationship with the terrain.

The path is narrow with a long drop on one side, so the walk is as much about the exposure as the destination. Views back onto the Urubamba and the Andes make it a strong side trip from the main circuit.
