Huchuy Picchu is the smaller, less-climbed peak inside the Machu Picchu complex — not to be confused with the better-known Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Peruways runs guided climbs for travelers who want a quieter summit day.

The hike is easier than Huayna Picchu: shorter staircase, less exposure, 45–60 minutes up for most hikers. Trail gains about 150 m above the main citadel. You’ll pass llamas grazing on the terraces (not alpacas despite the common confusion) and get a tight view of Machu Picchu below.

Along the trail there are small ruins — storage buildings and a short ceremonial platform — that Peruways’ guides can explain. These were working buildings, not temples, which is partly why Huchuy Picchu is less photographed.

Permits are capped daily; Peruways handles the booking alongside your citadel entrance and train. A sensible choice if you want to climb something but don’t have the knee for Huayna Picchu.
