Huchuy Picchu — “Little Picchu” — is the smaller peak directly behind the main citadel, between Machu Picchu Mountain and Huayna Picchu. Peruways runs guided hikes to it, and the climb is a good option when Huayna Picchu permits are sold out.

The trail is short (about 30 minutes up from the main site) and far less congested than the better-known peaks, but the viewpoint over the ruins is nearly as good. Guides cover the ridge’s role as a watchpoint in the Inca site layout.

From the summit you look straight down onto the central plaza and across to the terraces of Machu Picchu Mountain — a quieter alternative for photographers.
