Machu Picchu is a surprisingly workable family destination. Kids who can handle a day of walking at altitude get a real-world history and geography lesson at a scale most sites can’t match — terraces to climb, llamas on the grass, and a hidden-city story that’s genuinely interesting.
The site itself is well-suited: paths are wide, the main circuits are a 2–3 hour loop, and the Guardhouse viewpoint gives everyone the postcard view without a strenuous climb. Save Huayna Picchu for teenagers and older.
Peruways runs family-oriented itineraries with slower pacing, acclimatisation nights in the Sacred Valley (which is 500m lower than Cusco), and guides who adjust the pitch to the kids in the group.
