Machu Picchu Mountain, the taller of the two peaks that frame the citadel, climbs to 3,082 m and offers one of the quieter summit views in Peru. Peruways runs the permit booking and the surrounding logistics.

The trail is a 2.5 km one-way climb through cloud forest, gaining roughly 600 m. The summit sits above the ruins and gives you a bird’s-eye view with Salkantay (6,271 m) on the horizon. Fit hikers do the ascent in 90 minutes; most take 2–2.5 hours.

Peruways handles the Cusco–Ollantaytambo–Aguas Calientes train, the Consettur bus up to the citadel, and the Machu Picchu Mountain permit (separate from the main entrance, capped at 400 per day across two time slots). Book 2–3 months ahead in high season.
