Machu Picchu Mountain is the taller of the two peaks framing the citadel — around 3,082 metres at the summit, with a 90-minute to 2-hour climb from the main site. Peruways runs guided ascents.
The trail is a steady stone-step climb — fewer vertical sections than Huayna Picchu, but longer. Guides pace the group for the altitude and cover the geology, orchid species, and the ridge’s role in the wider Inca site layout.
From the summit, you look down the length of the Urubamba valley with the ruins laid out below. The Huayna Picchu peak sits across the ridge.
Permits are capacity-controlled and sold separately from standard Machu Picchu entry. Book early.
