The train to Machu Picchu is half the trip, and Peruways sells tickets for the full range of services.

Train Options

PeruRail’s Vistadome and Expedition are the two mainstays, with Inca Rail’s equivalents alongside them. The Vistadome adds panoramic side windows plus a glass ceiling, so you can watch the gorge walls climb overhead. Expedition is the no-frills workhorse: large windows, comfortable seats, same route, lower fare.

Scenery

After Ollantaytambo the track hugs the Urubamba River through the Sacred Valley, drops into cloud forest, and ends in Aguas Calientes under Machu Picchu’s cliffs. The 1.5–3.5 hour ride (depending on where you board) is one of the best stretches of rail in South America.

Service

Book train tickets at Peruways and the team will handle timing, class, and any Cusco-end logistics so you don’t end up juggling multiple operators.

Why go by rail

There’s no road into Aguas Calientes — the train (or a multi-day hike) is the way in. Book with Peruways and the Machu Picchu leg is settled.
