The Cusco–Machu Picchu train is one of the great rail routes in South America. Trains leave Poroy station (20 minutes outside Cusco) or San Pedro in the city centre, descend into the Sacred Valley, and follow the Urubamba River through the Andes to Aguas Calientes.
The run ends at Machu Picchu Pueblo at the base of the ruins. A 25-minute shuttle bus climbs the final switchbacks from there to the citadel entrance.
Peruways books across both operators (PeruRail and Inca Rail) and every service class, from Expedition economy to the panoramic Vistadome and the top-tier Hiram Bingham.
