The Cusco–Machu Picchu train is one of South America’s most scenic rail runs. Trains leave from Poroy (20 minutes outside Cusco) or San Pedro station in the city centre, drop into the Sacred Valley, and follow the Urubamba River through the Andes to Aguas Calientes.
The ride ends at Machu Picchu Pueblo at the base of the ruins. A 25-minute shuttle bus climbs the final switchbacks to the citadel entrance from there.
Peruways books across both operators (PeruRail and Inca Rail) and every service class — the economy Expedition, the panoramic Vistadome, and the top-tier Hiram Bingham. For most travelers the Vistadome’s panoramic windows justify the premium.
