The Cusco–Machu Picchu train is the standard way in, but the ride itself is worth attention. The route drops out of the Cusco plateau at 3,400m into the Sacred Valley, running along the Urubamba past Ollantaytambo before entering the cloud-forest gorge below.

The line ends at Aguas Calientes, directly beneath Machu Picchu. From the station it’s a 25-minute Consettur shuttle up to the citadel gate, or a steep two-hour walk if you prefer legs to buses.

Peruways books every PeruRail and Inca Rail service — budget Expedition, panoramic Vistadome, Hiram Bingham dining car — plus the entry ticket, shuttle and optional guide in the same checkout.

Fares climb inside the booking window, so secure the ride early. Start at Peruways.
