Looking for train ticket discounts to Machu Picchu? You’re not alone. Every year, thousands of travelers seek ways to reduce the cost of their journey to Peru’s most iconic destination. While prices are generally fixed by train companies, certain passengers can access discounts—and booking through PeruWays.com helps you find the best available deals quickly and easily.
Who Is Eligible for Discounts?
Not all travelers qualify for discounted train tickets, but there are several categories that may benefit:
1. Peruvians and Residents
Peruvian citizens and legal residents may access discounted fares—especially on the local train service, which is reserved for those with valid Peruvian identification. These discounted rates are not available to foreign tourists.
2. Children
Both PeruRail and IncaRail offer reduced fares for children:
Kids under 3 years old usually ride for free (on an adult’s lap).
Children between 3 and 11 years old typically receive a partial discount.
Discounts and age policies may vary slightly by company and train class.
3. Students
Occasionally, Peruvian university students may qualify for special discounts. However, international student IDs are rarely accepted by train companies for discounted fares.
4. Seasonal Promotions
At different times of the year, both train companies may offer promotional fares—such as last-minute deals or combo packages with entrance tickets to Machu Picchu. These are often limited-time offers, so it’s best to book early and check frequently.
The easiest way to catch these promotions? Use PeruWays.com to search and compare offers from both companies in one place.
