The Sacred Valley of Cusco, “El Valle Sagrado,” is a stretch of the Peruvian Andes that combines Inca archaeology with still-working Andean farming and villages. It is the main overland corridor between Cusco and Machu Picchu, and most Peru itineraries pass through it.

Pisac is the most-visited town for its market and the terraced ruins above it. The market has textiles, pottery, and produce, with the ruins climbing up the ridge behind. A short drive west, Ollantaytambo keeps the valley’s best-preserved Inca-era urban layout, plus a terraced fortress above the plaza. The views back down the valley are worth the climb.

Beyond the main sites, the valley is where you meet local Quechua communities. Cooking classes, weaving demonstrations, and homestay options are available, giving a direct way into Andean life.

Book with Peruways for guided tours or transfers. Our guides work the sites in context rather than reciting dates.

The Sacred Valley is less a stopover than a destination of its own.
