Ollantaytambo is the last stop before Machu Picchu — and the only Inca town still laid out on its original urban grid. The cobblestone streets you walk today were planned in the 15th century. Peruways runs daily transfers from Cusco plus guided site tours of the fortress and granaries.

Ollantaytambo sits around 60 km northwest of Cusco, roughly 90 minutes by road. The station is also the main departure point for trains to Aguas Calientes, so most Machu Picchu itineraries pass through here even if they don’t stop. Peruways will tell you when it’s worth stopping and when to roll through.

The site itself is two complexes: the terrace-and-temple fortress above the town (unfinished — the Spanish arrived mid-construction), and the Pinkuylluna granaries built high into the cliff opposite. A Peruways guide covers both plus a walk through the living town below.

We also handle the practical layer: train tickets from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, overnight stays in the valley hotels, and transfers back to Cusco or on to Puno.

Plan your valley day at Peruways and arrive in Ollantaytambo with the pieces already lined up.
