After a day on the citadel, the thermal baths at Aguas Calientes — the Baños Termales, which give the town its name — are a short walk from the main square. The pools are fed by local hot springs, with mineral content that locals credit for easing sore legs after the Inca Trail.
Peruways books tickets and arranges the walk-up as part of a Machu Picchu package. The baths run late — the last entry is usually around 7:30pm — so a late-afternoon visit after you come down the mountain works well.
The complex has several pools of different temperatures, from barely-warm up to about 42 °C, built into a terraced setting with the river below. It is not a luxury spa; it is a working municipal bath that happens to sit in a dramatic cloud-forest canyon. Towels and swimsuits are rented at the gate if you don’t have your own.
Book the Machu Picchu entry, the train, the shuttle and the baths through Peruways and the day sequences itself.
