Choquequario is known as the Machu Picchu sister because of its importance. On this activity you will make a trek from Cusco towards Choquequirao through the Peruvian mountains and you will enjoy picturesque landscapes.

This 4 day tour from Cusco is perfect if for visitors who have already visited Machu Picchu or if visitors that want to discover this potential new world wonder.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chiquisca.
Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chiquisca.

You will pick up at your hotel early in the morning and after 5 hours minibus ride you will arrive to the town of Cachora. You will make a short stop in Cachora to get everything ready to start the hike. The trek will take you to an area called Capuliyoc, where we will make a short stop to take a break and take your lunch. After a relaxing break, you will continue your the hike for 5 hours to Chiquisca campsite. You will stay there for the night and you will have a dinner before having a good sleep.

Day 2: Chiquisca – Santa Rosa – Choquequirao.
Day 2: Chiquisca – Santa Rosa – Choquequirao.

On this second day you will get up early and after taking your breakfast you will start your second day trek. Your first visit will be Rosalina beach on side of the Apurímac River. There you will take a break before continuing with you hike a 4-hour uphill climb. You will then reach Santa Rosa which is located at 2,100 amsl, where you will have your lunch and be able to rest from the uphill hike. Afterwards, you will hike for 3 extra hours until reaching the Choquequirao archaeological site. You will have a quick overview of the ruins before making a deep visit the next day.
Finally you will camp in the area, having a nice view of the citadel, and take your dinner before having a good sleep.

Day 3: Choquequirao – Santa Rosa – Chiquisca.

On this third day, you will wake up early in the morning and after a breakfast you will make a 2 hours visit to the archaeological site of Choquequirao. You will have a guided visit in Spanish and English to understand better the importance of this site and why is considered as the Machu Picchu sister. At the end of the guided visit you will have some free time on your own to take nice pictures.
After the archaeological site visit you will start a trek back to Santa Rosa where you will have a lunch. Then you will continue to Rosalina beach and Chiquisca. You will stay for night on this last destination.

Day 4: Chiquisca – Cachora – Cusco.
Day 4: Chiquisca – Cachora – Cusco.

On this last day, you will start this day with a breakfast and then you will hike towards Cachora. Once you arrive to this town you will take your lunch and you will be able to enjoy a free time with the group before boarding the minibus that will take you back to Cusco.

Transportation:

This tour package includes a shared transportation by minubus between Cusco and Capuliyoc as part of the Choquequirao tour on day 1. The hotel pickup service is only provided from hotels/accommodation within central Cusco with easy access.

The tour package also include a shared shuttle service by minibus between Cachora to Cusco on day 4. Passengers will be dropped-off in at their hotel in central Cusco or in Plaza Regocijos or Plaza San Francisco if the hotel is outside central Cusco or with difficult access.

A choquequirao entrance ticket is included on this tour package.

When and where does the tour start?
The departure time on day 1 will be at around 5:00am. The pick up at your hotel at around 4:30-5:00am. You will receive a confirmation email to confirm the tour and times.
When and where does the tour end?
On Day 4 after you will walk and you will stop in Cachora. Once you arrive to this town you will take your lunch and you will be able to enjoy a free time with the group before boarding the minibus that will take you back to Cusco. You will be dropped off at your hotel in Central Cusco or in Plaza Regocijos or Plaza San Francisco if your hotel is outside central Cusco or with difficult access.
When is recommended to arrive to Cusco?
It is recommended to arrive in Cusco at least 2 days before the tour in order to acclimatize and get used to the altitude. If you cannot arrive 2 days in advance it is strongly recommended to arrive the day before the tour because the tours start very early in the morning.
